# Setup Wizard

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

#### Welcome

A short introduction to the DATANORM format and what the app is for.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Default vendor

Pick the vendor you usually receive DATANORM files from. This is only a default – you can choose a different vendor for each import, see [Manual Import and Vendor Assignment](/datanorm-item-import/datanorm_en_us/importing-datanorm-files/manual-import.md).
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### DATANORM version

Sets the version used for **export**. DATANORM 5 is recommended. On import the version is detected from the file.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Duplicate handling

Determines how the app treats articles it already knows, and which field is used for matching. **Mark for Manual Review** is the safest choice to start with. Details under [Duplicates and Validation](/datanorm-item-import/datanorm_en_us/importing-datanorm-files/duplicates-and-validation.md).
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Processing settings

Controls whether approved staging data becomes items automatically. Leave auto-sync off at first so you can inspect every import.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Item defaults

The number series, item category and posting groups used to create new items. These values are required for synchronisation to be able to create items at all.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

## After the wizard

Two steps are not part of the wizard and are worth doing straight away:

{% hint style="warning" %}
**Initialise units.** Open **DATANORM Setup** and run **Initialize Units**. Without unit mappings, imported items get no base unit. See [Unit Mapping](/datanorm-item-import/datanorm_en_us/master-data-and-mappings/unit-mapping.md).
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="info" %}
**Review the price and part list options.** The **Price Lists** and **Part Lists (Sets)** sections of the setup ship with sensible defaults but are not covered by the wizard. Look through them once before you import in production – see [Base Configuration](/datanorm-item-import/datanorm_en_us/getting-started/base-configuration.md).
{% endhint %}

Every value can be changed later at any time in **DATANORM Setup**.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.solutioo.de/datanorm-item-import/datanorm_en_us/getting-started/setup-wizard.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
