# Setup field reference

Fields of the GLS Configuration page and the wizard: connection, shipper, label, packing, weight and features.

This page explains the fields you maintain in the wizard and on the **GLS Configuration** page. Use it as a reference when you change settings after the initial setup.

## API connection

| Field             | Meaning                            | Note                                                                                            |
| ----------------- | ---------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |

| **API Base URL** | Address of the GLS interface | Derived from the environment |
| **Client ID** | Identifier of your GLS credentials | Leaving it empty keeps the stored value |
| **Client Secret** | Secret key for the Client ID | Leaving it empty keeps the stored value |
| **Contact ID** | Your GLS contact identifier | Provided by GLS |

## Alternative shipper address

| **ZIP Code**, **City**, **Country Code** | City and country; the country is used to detect customs borders |
| **E-Mail**, **Phone No.** | Contact details for queries |

## Label and default values

| Field                                   | Meaning                                                     |
| --------------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Label Format** | PDF, PNG or Zebra. PNG is preselected for new installations |

| **Default Product**/**Default Service** | Suggested for new packages and can be changed per package |

### Which format is right for you?

| Format    | Suitable for                                       | Note                                                                   |
| --------- | -------------------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **PNG** | Built-in batch printing from Business Central | Also stored as a label image, so it can be used for report printing |
| **PDF** | Downloading and printing via a PDF viewer | Not automatically embedded in the image report |
| **Zebra** | Thermal label printers that use the Zebra language | The file must be sent to the printer; not included in the image report |

## Packing and weight

| Field                               | Meaning                                                                 |
| ----------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Packing Mode** | **Bin Packing**, **All On First Package** or **Smart Distribute** |
| **Package Weight Source** | **Net Weight**, **Gross Weight** or **Item Unit of Measure** |
| **Dimension Unit** | Unit of your maintained dimensions: cm, mm or m |
| **Weight Unit** | Unit of your maintained weights: kg or g |
| **Default Max Package Weight (kg)** | Fallback limit for package planning when no box-specific maximum is set |

The app converts dimensions and weights for package planning. The selected units must match the numbers you actually maintain: if your items have a weight of 500, that is half a tonne with the weight unit kg, but half a kilogram with g.

**Packing modes compared**

| Packing mode         | Behavior                                                                       |
| -------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| Bin Packing | Distributes items across the best-fitting packages while respecting the limits |
| All On First Package | Puts all items into one package as far as the limits allow |
| Smart Distribute | Distributes items across several packages while respecting the limits |

In all modes, weight limits, **GLS Package Separately** and **GLS Max. Qty. per Package** apply. See [Multi-package shipments and batch processing](/gls-connector/gls-connector_en_us/daily-work/multi-package-and-batch-processing.md).

## Features

You find the switches on the configuration page under **Enabled Features** and in the fourth wizard step under **Optional Features**.

| Feature | Effect in Business Central | Not included |
| -------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------- | ----------------------------------- |
| **Enable Hazardous Goods** | Shows the hazardous goods section on the package card | No GLS approval for hazardous goods |
| **Enable Returns** | Allows you to use the return details | Does not book a return on its own |
| **Enable Pickup** | Allows you to use the pickup details | Does not book a pickup on its own |

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.solutioo.de/gls-connector/gls-connector_en_us/setup/field-reference.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
