# Attributes and Product Options

Attributes control technical product characteristics; product options represent buyer-selectable add-ons.

### Downloading Attributes

The initial load imports attribute codes, labels, types, scopes, and option values. Use the technical **Attribute Code** in mappings.

### Assigning Attributes

1. Verify the attribute set.
2. Map the Magento attribute to a BC field or a variant axis.
3. Check data type and required status.
4. Upload a test product.

### Product Options

Options can contain title, type, required status, sort order, prices, and selection values. Test price and tax effects in the cart.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Select/multi-select values must exist as valid Magento options. Free text instead of an option ID can cause invalid variants.
{% endhint %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.solutioo.de/magento-2-api-connector/magento2_en_us/master-data-management/attributes-and-product-options.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
